Bagnone (MC)

Adrenaline 3/5

Landscape 3/5
The Bagnone stream is the perfect canyon for those who want to try jumping: 5 breathtaking leaps (up to 10 metres) into crystal-clear pools, surrounded by the wild nature of the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park. If you are looking for pure adrenaline without technical complications, this is the place.
The Bagnone stream rises from Monte Sillara at 1,861 metres and flows through Lunigiana before joining the River Magra. The stretch we cover in canyoning lies in the municipality of Bagnone, in the province of Massa-Carrara — one of the most beautiful villages in Tuscany, part of the UNESCO MAB Reserve.
This canyon is famous for one unique feature: the jumps. Five beautiful leaps of varying heights that allow everyone to find their own challenge. The highest reaches 10 metres, but there are options for every level of courage. And if you really do not feel up to it? No problem: every jump can be bypassed with rope rappels or alternative routes.
The route also includes 2 rope rappels (the highest at 8 metres), walking stretches through the stream and small natural slides. But the real stars remain the jumps: that feeling of flying for a moment before plunging into crystal-clear water.
Canyoning Bagnone is designed for those who want to experience the thrill of jumping in a safe and accessible setting. The activity is perfect for families with children aged 12 and over, groups of friends seeking adrenaline, memorable stag and hen parties and fun corporate team building events. You need to be able to swim (water rating 3/5) as the pools are deep. The neoprene wetsuit aids buoyancy. No jump is compulsory: anyone who prefers can always choose the rope rappel.
On hot summer days, the Bagnone offers a different way to cool off: far from the crowds on the coast, immersed in an unspoilt natural setting. The cool stream water, turquoise pools and the silence of the valley create a rejuvenating experience that goes beyond simple canyoning.
The ideal season runs from June to September, with optimal conditions in midsummer when the temperatures make jumping into cool water even more enjoyable.

What the Experience Involves
The meeting point is in the small square in front of the Teatro Quartieri, in the historic centre of Bagnone. After a short transfer by car you will receive the full equipment: a 5 mm neoprene wetsuit with hood, boots, helmet, harness and safety carabiners. The guide will explain safe jumping techniques and the rules for enjoying the adventure without risk.
We drive to the canyon entry point. A short downhill walk of approximately 5 minutes (25 metres of elevation loss) takes us to the start of the water route.
The adventure begins! The route covers approximately 1,200 metres with 60 metres of elevation loss, alternating between:
The 5 spectacular jumps:
Remember: no jump is compulsory. You can always choose the rope rappel assisted by the guide, or bypass the section entirely. And if you particularly enjoyed a jump? You can do it again!
The 2 rope rappels: The highest rappel is 8 metres, perfect for those who prefer to descend in safety or want to try the double-rope technique.
Exploration stretches: Between jumps, you will walk through the stream with the water at ankle or waist depth, cross small natural slides and swim in crystal-clear pools. The setting is sunny and open, very different from narrow, shaded canyons.
Exiting the canyon involves a short climb of around 20 metres in 10 minutes. We then drive back to the starting point.
Back in Bagnone, you can get changed and enjoy a traditional Lunigiana snack. Many participants take the opportunity to explore the charming medieval village with its castle and humpback bridge.

Info Canyoning
No, no dive is ever mandatory. Each jump can be avoided by lowering yourself down with a rope assisted by the guide or by bypassing the passage. You decide what to do and what not to do. And if you enjoyed a dive? You can do it again!
The canyon offers five dives with progressive heights, starting at 3-4 meters and reaching the highest point of 10 meters. All dives take place in deep, safe pools, which are checked by the guide before each jump. Proper diving technique is explained during the initial briefing.
Yes, Bagnone is one of the most suitable canyons for families who want to try diving. Children aged 12 and up who know how to swim and are eager to challenge themselves can participate. The five dives (from 3 to 10 meters) are all optional; those who aren't up for it can always descend with a guide. The required level of water ability is 3/5, so familiarity with deep water is essential. It's also perfect for bachelor and bachelorette parties (the dives create unforgettable moments!) and corporate team building events looking for an engaging activity.
Yes, you need to know how to swim. The required level of water skills is medium (3/5): there are sections where you swim in deep pools and the water can reach above your waist. A neoprene wetsuit helps with buoyancy, but you must be comfortable in the water.
They are two different canyons that take their names from two streams in the same valley:
Bagnone: diving is the main attraction (5 jumps up to 10m), a more open and sunny environment, ideal for those who love the adrenaline rush of jumping
Bagnolecchia: more technical with abseiling, there are also jumps up to 10 meters, waterfalls and a small canyon to explore, typical Lunigiana environment with chestnut groves and ancient mills.
Both depart from the same meeting point (Teatro Quartieri di Bagnone) and have a similar duration (~3 hours).
Bagnone is perfect for beginners because it offers an adrenaline rush without excessive technical complexity. Diving is the most direct way to experience the thrill of canyoning: that moment of courage before the leap, the flight, the impact with the water. No complex mountaineering techniques are required, just a desire to have fun.
One day = one canyon. The experience lasts about three hours, plus transfers and briefings. However, if you're in the area for a weekend, you can easily do Bagnone one day and Bagnolecchia or Stretti di Giaredo the next.
